RAG dolls have come a long way since Raggedy Ann and her mate Andy burst on the scene.
Take the cloth creations crafted by Elizabeth Bint, of Mayfield, for example.
A cloth Queen Elizabeth I, a lively court minstrel and a fancy forest elf are just three of her dolls featuring the painstaking detail that makes Ann and Andy look like poor cloth cousins.
Last weekend Mrs Bint's dolls were named among the best entered in the Sydney Doll Show at the University of NSW.
Her fabric trio won three first prizes, pleasantly surprising Mrs Bint who had never entered the show.
`This year was the first time a separate category was made available for the cloth dolls, usually it's just the porcelain dolls and teddy bears,' she said.
It took Mrs Bint weeks to complete her dolls and she said the secret to a top cloth creature was paying attention to the smallest details.
