SHE'S known at her local supermarket in Hayward, California, as the Doll Lady.

Elinor Peace Bailey, one of the leading presenters at the show, is a healer and an ardent feminist who makes and plays with cloth dolls and urges other adults to do the same.

She says: "Don't make the dolls for children, make them for the child in yourself."

She is on a crusade to inspire other women to explore the world of doll artistry and to persuade adults to play with dolls.

Bailey has a deep conviction that dolls speak to their makers and can bring liberation and self-discovery.

In addition to doll making, Bailey markets her own line of doll patterns(38 in all) and publishes booklets on doll face painting, doll hair and wearable dolls.

She has written and published her own poetry, dresses in outrageous costumes (which she claims expresses her true self) and dyes her hair red, green and purple in turn as the mood strikes her.

Bailey will be conducting her unique and zany cloth doll making workshops at the Stitches and Craft Show.
